City to play host to U’s for second summer running

For the second summer in a row, Cambridge United will make the short journey to Sawston to take on Cambridge City in a pre-season friendly.

The two clubs met for the first time in seven years last July, with United running out 3-1 winners at the FWD-IP Community Stadium.

And they will renew acquaintances again, this time on Saturday, 11 July, at the same venue.

It will also be a reunion for the two managers, with U’s boss Neil Harris having been a team-mate of former Cambridge player Mickey Spillane at Southend United.

Meanwhile, United have also confirmed that they will play host to League Two outfit Northampton Town in a friendly at the Cledara Abbey Stadium on Tuesday, 28 July.

Along with the recently-confirmed trip to Spain to take on Preston North End, those are likely to be the three friendlies that United supporters will be able to attend this summer.

All other yet-to-be-confirmed warm-up fixtures are set to be played behind closed doors.
