Southampton ended the season unbeaten in their final 19 league games.

They finished fourth, 15 points behind league winners Coventry, who secured promotion to top flight football for the first time since 2001.

Saints came then from behind to win against Middlesbrough in the second leg of the semi-final play-off at St Mary’s.

After a goalless first leg, it was Middlesbrough who took an early lead with Riley McGree scoring after just five minutes. Ross Stewart equalised for Saints just before the end of the first half.

Shea Charles secured Saint’s place in the final after scoring with just four minutes of extra-time remaining.

Hull beat Millwall 2-0 in the second leg of their play-off semi-final at The Den, after a goalless first leg. Mo Belloumi and Joe Gelhardt came off the bench to score the goals.

Hull have the opportunity to return to top flight football for the first time since 2017.
