Man dies in vehicle as police incident on M80 sparks travel delays

The man’s family have been made aware, police confirmed.

The lane has since reopened.

A man has died after police were called on the M80 near Cumbernauld on Monday.

Drivers were previously warned of delays between southbound junctions five (Auchenkilns Junction) and six at around 6.20am on May 25. Traffic Scotland reported that one lane had been closed to allow emergency services to work.

Police say that a man was pronounced dead within a vehicle. His family have been made aware and officers say there are ‘no suspicious circumstances’ surrounding the death. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The lane has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.20am on Monday, 25 May, 2026, we were called to the M8 near junction 5, near Cumbernauld.

“A man was pronounced dead within a vehicle. His family is aware. There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
