Extreme Heat Is Changing When and Where People Travel: Booking Holdings
Travelers are increasingly adjusting where and when they travel to avoid extreme weather such as heatwaves, as well as overcrowding and overtourism, according to new data from Booking Holdings.
The company’s annual sustainability report and accompanying documents, published on Tuesday, found that nearly three-quarters of travelers now factor in extreme weather, especially heat, when deciding where and when to book.
The findings were based on responses from 32,500 travelers across 35 markets worldwide and also found that 31% had changed or cancelled a trip in the past year due to extreme weather or natural disasters.
More than half — 55% — said some destinations are now too hot to visit at their preferred time of year.
