Yurav Premlall one shot off Tiger Woods record as he claims Catalunya Championship win
South Africa’s Yurav Premlall was one shot away from breaking Tiger Woods’ 26-year-old record for the biggest winning margin on the DP World Tour as he stormed to victory at the Catalunya Championship.
Premlall carded a final-round 63 to finish on 28 under and secure his maiden DP World Tour win by 14 shots from compatriot Shaun Norris.
American great Woods finished 15 shots clear of the field when he won the US Open in 2000.
Premlall repeated his 63 in the third round a day later, one again carding 10 birdies and one bogey.
On top of his prize money of just under 400,000 euros (£345,000), the 22-year-old received $50,000 (£36,700) for the 63 being a course record and also moved up from 598th to 250th in the world rankings.
“No words,” said Premlall, who also went from 157th to 26th in the Race for Dubai rankings.
“I’ve worked so hard to get into this position and it’s so rewarding to finally see the results of it.
“I mean the last eight, nine months have been such a struggle just to build myself on to a platform where I know I could give myself a chance to win and to end up obviously in this position.
“I’m just so grateful so it’s a dream come true.”
